Meerkat Sentry - Botswana

In the cool, golden light of early morning, I watched a mob of meerkat emerge from their burrows, soaking up the first warmth of the day. The air was still — until a dog and its owner walked past on a nearby farm track. In an instant, the meerkats all bolted toward the sound, their curiosity on full display.

I raised my camera as a group of them popped upright, all in a row, taking on the sentry duty while the youngsters in the mob remained curious. Meerkats rely on these vigilant guards to keep watch for danger, ready to sound the alarm if anything seems off. It was a fleeting, perfect moment — a little glimpse into their world of teamwork and alertness.
