Tree climbing lion - Uganda
While sitting in the safari truck in Ishasha National Park, we watched a lioness gracefully climb into the branches of a large tree, quickly finding a comfortable spot to rest. Just below her, her juvenile cub tried to follow. He scrambled at the base of the tree, stopping in the fork of the tree, looking for a way up, but there wasn’t much room left near his mother.
For a moment, he paused and gazed up at her, clearly trying to work out his next move. After a few unsuccessful attempts, he gave up and wandered over to a patch of shade nearby, where he finally settled down on the ground. It was a simple, genuine moment that showed the cub’s growing independence — and the easy bond between mother and youngster.
